Corner Seeds

They're seeds... that corn... They make corn... They're corners... That works, right?

I used the flash on this one to enhance the contours of the dish and to bring out the satin and shine of the kernels. I found that flashing at 50% zoom brings out the best contrasts in macro photos, at least for me with the Canon G16.

For #FlickrFriday's "Corner" and Macro Mondays' "Seeds" challenges.

You can't make a cornier pun than this one. But I can, of corn.

Munch Madness: Grilled Zucchini vs. Baked Manicotti

Zucchini was a little green on the food court, but Manicotti's moves were cheesy and pasta ball out of bounds. Zucchini nearly got squashed. In the end it was a draw, with both players feeling chewed up.

Micandy Heart

Micandy Heart

Mikan-flavored hard candy from Japan. Mikan is a seedless Japanese citrus fruit similar to tangerines. The candy, called "micandy" in Japan, tastes very much like lemon drops.

Meltykiss green tea chocolate from Japan

"deep & rich green tea cube chocolate". Manufactured by Meiji. Purchased from 3shel1d on eBay.

The packaging shows the chocolates covered in a cocoa powder, but they were individually wrapped, so I guess the powder was pressed into the chocolate. They are still pretty good, like cubic bonbons or truffles. They're about the width of a thumbnail, so one can easily eat a whole box of I lost count how many. It was easy.

Groundhog Day
I screamed...

This was not thought out well. A bowl with a very small base plus a tower of ice cream overloaded with sprinkles plus a table with very little flat surface is a recipe for disaster. Fortunately I caught it but not before it rained rainbow on the table.

Eggnog Overnight Oats

A convenient breakfast for the holidays when you've got the eggnog and you don't want to make breakfast tomorrow.

Mix up 1/3 cup rolled or old-fashioned oats, some fruit or nuts (I used slivered almonds, pecans, and coconut), a pinch of salt, 1/4 cup eggnog, and 1/3 cup milk, sprinkle cinnamon on top, and let it sit in the fridge overnight. The next morning all the liquid will be absorbed and the oats will be soft and sweet from the eggnog, so no sugar needs to be added.

If you don't have eggnog, you can use other dairy such as milk, kefir, or yogurt. You can also mix in wheat germ, chia seeds, and other healthy fillers.
